This year we are excited to present the Showcase of Dance! We value performance opportunities for our students but understand that dance as an art form is more about the process than the finished product. By switching between showcase years and recital years we give the dancers a chance to learn HOW to dance, instead of simply learning A dance. While the showcase is not required, we do encourage and hope each dancer will join in performing.
How is Showcase the same as the recital? Dancers will learn choreography in class, classes perform on stage together at Zionsville HS Star Bank Performing Arts Center, family & friends are invited to the show (free!), & dancers will wear something fun on stage!
How is Showcase different from recital? Performance is 1-1.5 hours at most, no purchased costume (no extra cost), no extra rehearsals or dress rehearsals, each class only performs one time, and no classes combine on stage.
In short, the Showcase of Dance can be thought of as a “simplified” recital without all the bells & whistles.
The dance classes are placed in to 3 groups (see below). We’ve done our absolute best to keep dancers who take multiple classes to be in as few showcase groups as possible and tried to group siblings together when able. Dancers need to arrive 15 minutes prior to show time in their regular dance attire unless told otherwise. Every dancer will have either a simple costume, accessory, or prop to wear/use on stage. For showcase years, we utilize many costumes we already own along with items you might already have at home. The teacher will relay specific details on costumes closer to the show.
There is a $50/family fee to participate in the showcase which helps defray a portion of the cost of the venue rental. There will be NO additional costume fee (with the exception of possibly finding a low-cost costume accessory) and it is FREE for anyone to attend the show.
Volunteers will be needed to help chaperone classes, pass out programs, assist backstage, and more. Stay tuned on further details which will all be listed here: www.VillageDanceStudio.com/Showcase
