Showcase of Classes 2022 | Saturday, May 21st | Zionsville Community HS (Star Bank PAC)
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I purchase tickets? There are no tickets! The show is free and open to the public. We encourage you to invite your neighbors, friends, and family.
When & where should my dancer arrive? Please have your dancer arrive in the auditorium no later than 15 minutes prior to their performance group start time. They will meet their class chaperone in the mezzanine of the auditorium. Chaperones will each have a class sign so parents can help guide them to the correct group. Details on parking and auditorium drop-off can be found HERE.
What should my dancer bring/wear to the performance? Dancers should arrive in the costume/dance attire as specified by the teacher and found HERE. They should NOT bring any extra clothes, shoes, jackets, etc with them (or they should leave with their parents) once they meet up with the class chaperone.
What make-up and hair are needed for my dancer? Performers should all have their hair up neatly and completely out of their face. All ballet classes need to have dancer's hair in a bun. Make-up is optional. Dancers are welcome to do basic stage make-up, with parent help. Red lips, pink cheeks, mascara, and natural shades of eye shadow are recommended for any younger dancers wanting to wear some make-up on stage. Make-up does help illuminate the face under the stage lights, but we do not require it for the showcase performance as we work to keep this production a bit simpler and as stress-free as possible. Intermediate/advanced dancers are responsible for full stage make-up.
Is there a video recording of the performance? We do not offer a professional videographer or livestreaming at this show.
Can I buy flowers for my dancer? The VDS Parent's Council will be selling flowers as a fundraiser in the lobby before and after each show for anyone who would like to purchase for their dancer.
What is the difference between showcase & recital?
Similar to our recital, the showcase will give each dancer the opportunity to perform onstage at Zionsville High School's Star Bank Performing Arts Center. However, we do not buy extra costumes or require extra rehearsals, and only have one show which is unlike our every-other year recital. We value performance opportunities for our students but understand that dance as an art form is more about the process than the finished product.
Why do you switch every other year between a simplified showcase and full-production recital? By switching between showcase years and recital years we give the dancers a chance to learn HOW to dance, instead of simply learning A dance. It allows our dancers to focus on technique and improve each year. By eliminating the costume fee every other year we also allow for dance opportunities to be more affordable for many families that could not afford an ever-year recital.
AWARDS: Each year we acknowledge those students who have danced with us consistently for 5, 10 or 15 years. If you/your dancer has been taking lessons at Village Dance Studio for a consecutive 5, 10, or 15 years please fill out the form HERE by April 16th. If you are unsure how many years you/your dancer has taken please email Annette@VillageDanceStudio.com.
