Village Dance Studio Ensemble Auditions Tuesday, June 6 | 6:00-8:00pm
Sign Up for the Audition by June 1st HERE. Ensemble Audition Information What do I need for the Ensemble Audition? Dancers should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the audition time to check in and warm themselves up. Dancers need ballet shoes, pointe shoes (if applicable), jazz shoes, and have footed tights that can be rolled up to ankle or calf-length for the modern component of the audition. Traditional attire (black leotard and pink tights) is recommended. Hair must be pulled back and off the face, bun preferred. What does the Ensemble Audition determine? This audition is used to determine the 2017-2018 Ensemble Members as well as featured parts, solos, extra performances, Nutcracker Short & Suite groups, etc. What if I have a pre-scheduled conflict and cannot attend the audition, but am still interested? This will be handled on a case by case basis. Please email us immediately at email@example.com. Ensemble FAQ If selected, what are the requirements? Ensemble members are required to attend the Premier Dance Workshop in the summer, take two VDS ballet classes each week, participate in the annual Ensemble fundraiser, and be an active dancer at the Village Dance Studio. Attendance is very important for all Ensemble members.
When does the Ensemble rehearse? The VDS Ensemble rehearsal schedule varies depending on what shows are coming up. Some of the choreography may be taught in class, but actually putting the dances together will be outside of regular class time. Dancers are asked to reserve Saturdays from 1:30-2:30pm for possible rehearsals. Other times will be worked out with students and choreographers as needed.
Is everyone in every show? Not necessarily. Being a member of the VDS Ensemble means that you may be asked to be in additional shows and performances, but not everyone will be asked to be in every show and you do not have to be in every show if your schedule does not allow. Ensemble members are given performing opportunities, but if your schedule doesn’t allow you to rehearse a certain dance, then you may not be able to be in that performance.
Fees? There is a yearly fee of $75 to be a member of the VDS Ensemble & $50 if selected as an Ensemble Apprentice. This fee helps cover some of the additional costs, such as additional rehearsals/teacher time, costumes, performance fees, and more. Dancers may pay for this fee themselves by being an assistant for a younger class. Assistant schedules/selections are based on a first-come, first-serve system in order of age/experience. Ensemble members receive class selection priority. First & second year assistants receive a $50 discount, while those who have assisted for three years or more will receive a $100 discount (the additional $25 can be applied to tuition in January).
What is expected of Ensemble dancers? All members are required to take 2 VDS Ballet classes/week during the regular school year as well as other dance styles. We want our members to be well-rounded dancers who can keep up in ballet technique as well as having a diverse dance background. Good attendance in classes is required. Ensemble members must call when they must miss or write it on the calendar in Studio II. Above all else, we expect our Ensemble members to be respectful, have a positive attitude, give their best effort each day, and represent VDS as role models to those around them. What is expected of Ensemble parents? VDS Ensemble parents are expected to attend the MANDATORY Ensemble Parents Meeting on Monday, June 26th. They are also asked to attend at least half of the Parent’s Council meetings held once/month during the regular school year. Additional expectations include: helping with the annual fundraiser, providing snacks/meals on long rehearsal days, helping organize costumes, setup & tear down of performance sets, etc. We hope that veteran parents are able to help as a chairman of a committee, chaperone the Ensemble trip, plan a group outing or two, and more. Just like other sports, teams, or groups that your child is involved with the VDS Ensemble counts on the support of parents to be a successful and meaningful experience for your dancer.
